To anyone who has read Aldo Leopold the title of this blog will make sense. For those who have not yet picked up the classic A Sand County Almanac, a sand county is a place where a damaged and abused nature may be revived through care, respect, dedication and above all, love. And where there is nature there is a “community.” And that community is ALL of us: it is ALL life everywhere.
I am a believer in animal rights. I have always felt a deep and abiding sense that every creature has a consciousness and as a living being, is entitled to respect. It is truly a trans-formative experience to feel that all the world is a Thou and should be addressed as Thou. This conviction is at the core of my person and has always been with me. All of the writing which is to follow will be in the spirit ofthou ness.
I hope that you will join me in imagining how we can live in a world where the whole Earth, the whole community is preserved. I hope you will educate me and that I, in turn, may educate you.

I enjoyed this, Jeremy. it resonates with me and reminds me of teachings by Martin Buber and Gershon Winkler.
